Nikko Bali Resort and Spa is keeping culinary tradition alive with the latest addition to their food and beverage collection

NUSA DUA - APRIL 2011. Bebek Betutu, Sate Lilit, Babi Guling, those are just some of the names of Balinese authentic cuisine that you can find around the island. But these dishes are in a gastronomy war with the likes of burgers, pizzas, pastas and other fast foods or international cuisine; they are becoming less and less known among tourists visiting the island. It is the duty of the tourism industry, especially hotels, resorts and restaurants to keep the culinary heritage of the Island of the Gods alive through their food and beverage products.

After launching the successful regular Balinese themed event "Kampoeng Bali" in 2010, Nikko Bali Resort and Spa recently introduced a new food and beverage outlet within the resort called Paon Bali (Bali Kitchen).

Paon Bali is an option for the resort's guests that need an alternative dinner venue. Situated in the resort's lower lobby terrace, this outlet offers live cooking, with wok station and grill station for that extra touch, for the guest's culinary experience at the resort.

Along with Paon Bali, Nikko Bali Resort and Spa also regularly organizes a dinner and dance weekly event and it’s annual cultural appreciation nights in August.

The latest buzz for the past few years has been about environment. People are doing whatever they can to solve matters of waste, garbage, pollution, energy conservation and sustaining whatever we still have here on earth. More and more people are aware of this and they are more careful in choosing products and services. Green products, eco-friendly products and lately, green tourism.

On an island like Bali, with nature as a main attraction, this concept should be highly regarded, especially by the people of the island, tourists and of course the government and the hotel industry. Through associations such as Bali Hotels Association, hoteliers and restaurateurs have been doing their best to overcome these concerns through different actions either within their own company or their surrounding community. Tree planting, beach cleaning, recycling, waste management, energy saving, and whatever they can do to help maintain a clean, safe, preserved environment. Seminars, awareness campaigns and even a guide book are provided for members who are interested in making a 'green' difference.

With this rising issue, Nikko Bali Resort and Spa pledged itself to being 'green' through a campaign called "Nikko Bali Goes Green" which is an array of many activities done by the resort to be an environmentally friendly hotel. After going through a thorough assessment by an international testing, inspection and certification organization, TUV Rheinland Indonesia (www.tuv.com), Nikko Bali Resort and Spa is now officially awarded with a prestigious certification of 'ECO HOTEL', being the first resort on the island to achieve this 'green' status.

On Thursday, April 21, 2011 the official certificate hand over from TUV Rheinland to Nikko Bali Resort and Spa was performed. An event titled "A Green Evening" was held in the lush gardens of the resort with invitations to the media, government institutions, NGOs and the resort's business partners, to celebrate this 'green' achievement. Along with the 'ECO HOTEL' certification, the management of the resort also acknowledged its ECO team as the drive behind the whole campaign. "These magnificent people have dedicated their work to follow through every single requirement for us to achieve the ECO HOTEL status and we honour their outstanding efforts in creating a greener and better resort" said Jean-Charles Le Coz, General Manager of Nikko Bali Resort and Spa, "People are more concern about the environment, we've been doing what we do for the past 10 years and now we've finally got the acknowledgement. Now we are proud to say that Nikko Bali Resort and Spa is 'green' and we're the first hotel on the island to achieve this. We sincerely hope that this will be a start for Bali and within the next 5 to 10 years, Bali will be cleaner and greener than ever."

This achievement by Nikko Bali Resort and Spa is also dedicated to the program launched by the governor of Bali, Made Mangku Pastika on February 22, 2010 called "Bali Green Province". Along with this prestigious award, in 2010 Nikko Bali Resort and Spa has also received the ASEAN Green Hotel Standard award for the second time.

Australia and Bali are like two very good neighbors who love to entertain one another and have a great time together. With their laid back and friendly attitude, many Australians have found a home in Bali, where they are welcomed as friends and sometimes, family.

Recently, together with Strategic Airline and Destination Asia, Nikko Bali Resort and Spa hosted 20 lucky winners and friends of a radio contest made by 92.9 FM, a hit radio station in Perth, Australia, with the show host Lisa Fernandez. These lucky ladies received free return flight tickets for two, two night accommodation at Nikko Bali Resort and Spa and a dinner with Lisa; as winners of the quizzes made on the show that aired from February to March. Lisa has been known to host similar events in Perth, every 2 months where she would invite her listeners for a long lunch at the hippest place in town.

"When Strategic Airline contacted us, we immediately took this opportunity to host them" said Jean-Charles Le Coz, General Manager of Nikko Bali Resort and Spa, “Australia has been a great supporter of Bali all these years and we thought it would be a good thing to do, hosting this event." Nikko Bali Resort and Spa provided these girls with their luxurious and comfortable accommodation and a world class culinary experience at the resort's award winning restaurant, The Shore Restaurant and Bar.

A pre-dinner cocktail started the highlight of the trip at the roof top of The Shore. All the girls, all dressed up for the night, got to know each other and chat with Lisa and the crew of Strategic Airlines, a representative of Destination Asia and the management team of Nikko Bali Resort and Spa. After the cocktail, they were escorted down to Aqua Mezzanine and were welcomed by a lavish setting prepared by The Shore's chef, Dewa Eka Putra and his team. He proved his culinary skill through a 4 course set dinner, each featuring premium ingredients served in his fusion continental style of cooking. Dinner went on with friendly chats and exciting stories as Lisa went around the table to get to know everyone.

Lisa's Long Lunch - dinner in Bali - concluded with a spontaneous karaoke moment as some of the guests went on stage to join a performing band with some classic songs.
