UPCOMING RAT’S YEAR CELEBRATION AT NIKKO BALI RESORT AND SPA

In commemoration of the Chinese New Year 2559, Nikko Bali Resort and Spa celebrated the Year of the Rat with buffet dinner at Tao Li, Chinese Restaurant on Friday, 8 th February 2008. In attendance, besides the Chinese, there were Indonesians and other guests from other countries.

Guests were entertained first at the Lobby with the performance of Barong Sai dance which symbolized prosperity in future life. The lively dance showed continued at the brightly decorated Tao Li Restaurant and alternated by a musical entertainment which delighted the guests as they enjoyed their dinner comprising of exquisite flavors of specially concocted mainland Chinese delicacies.

The festivities culminated at around 10pm with exchanges of joyful and longevity wishes among the celebrants.



NIKKO BALI RESORT & SPA OBTAINED THE ASEAN GREEN HOTEL STANDARD AWARD

Nikko Bali Resort & Spa proudly announced its achievement in receiving the ASEAN Green Hotel Standard Award for period 2008-2010. The award acknowledges the resort with outstanding efforts in environmental conservation and having adopted energy conservation measures. The award was made during the Asean Tourism Forum held in Bangkok, Thailand from 18 to 22 January 2008.

The ASEAN Green Hotel Standard is based on 11 criterias: environmental policies, use of green products; collaboration with the community and local organizations; human resource development; solid waste management; energy efficiency; water efficiency; air quality management, noise pollution control, waste water treatment management and chemical substance disposal management.

The Green Hotel Standard is one of the six ASEAN Tourism Standards that the ASEAN member countries have considered essential in helping ASEAN to be a quality destination with uniqueness.

In total, 81 hotels, mostly independent hotels or small chains were distinguished with the Green Recognition Award.



2008 IS THE YEAR OF RAT IN CHINESE ASTROLOGY

 

 

 

 

 

 

The rat was welcomed in ancient times as protector and bringer of material prosperity. Rat is associated with aggression, wealth, charm, and order, yet also associated with death, war, the occult, pestilence, and atrocities.

In Chinese astrology there are twelve animal signs which represent twelve different types of personality. The zodiac traditionally begins with the sign of the Rat, and there are many stories about the Chinese Zodiac. The following are the twelve zodiac signs in order and their characteristics:

  2. Ox : Dependable, calm, methodical, patient, hardworking, ambitious, conventional, steady, modest, logical, resolute, tenacious. Can be stubborn, narrow-minded, materialistic, rigid, demanding.
  3. Tiger : Unpredictable, rebellious, colorful, powerful, passionate, daring, impulsive, vigorous, stimulating, sincere, affectionate, humanitarian, generous. Can be restless, reckless, impatient, quick-tempered, obstinate and selfish.
  4. Rabbit : Gracious, kind, sensitive, soft-spoken, amiable, elegant, reserved, cautious, artistic, thorough, tender, self-assured, astute, compassionate, flexible. Can be moody, detached, superficial, self-indulgent, opportunistic and lazy.
  5. Dragon : Magnanimous, vigorous, strong, self-assured, proud, direct, eager, zealous, fiery, passionate, decisive, pioneering, ambitious, generous, loyal. Can be arrogant, tyrannical, demanding, eccentric, dogmatic, over-bearing, impetuous and brash.
  6. Snake : Deep thinker, wise, mystic, graceful, soft-spoken, sensual, creative, prudent, shrewd, ambitious, elegant, cautious, responsible, calm, strong, constant, purposeful. Can be loner, bad communicator, possessive, hedonistic, self-doubting, distrustful and mendacious.
  7. Horse : Cheerful, popular, quick-witted, changeable, earthy, perceptive, talkative, agile mentally and physically, magnetic, intelligent, astute, flexible, open-minded. Can be fickle, anxious, rude, gullible, stubborn, lack stability and perseverance.
  8. Sheep : Righteous, sincere, sympathetic, mild-mannered, shy, artistic, creative, gentle, compassionate, understanding, mothering, determined, peaceful, generous, seeks security. Can be moody, indecisive, over-passive, worrier, pessimistic, over-sensitive, complainer.
  9. Monkey : Inventor, motivator, improviser, quick-witted, inquisitive, flexible, innovative, problem solver, self-assured, sociable, polite, dignified, competitive, objective, factual, intellectual. Can be egotistical, vain, selfish, cunning, jealous and suspicious.
  10. Rooster : Acute, neat, meticulous, organized, self-assured, decisive, conservative, critical, perfectionist, alert, zealous, practical, scientific, responsible. Can be over zealous and critical, puritanical, egotistical, abrasive, opinionated.
  11. Dog : Honest, intelligent, straightforward, loyal, sense of justice and fair play, attractive, amiable, unpretentious, sociable, open-minded, idealistic, moralistic, practical, affectionate, dogged. Can be cynical, lazy, cold, judgmental, pessimistic, worrier, stubborn, quarrelsome.
  12. Boar : Honest, simple, gallant, sturdy, sociable, peace-loving, patient, loyal, hard-working, trusting, sincere, calm, understanding, thoughtful, scrupulous, passionate, intelligent. Can be naive, over-reliant, self-indulgent, gullible, fatalistic and materialistic.

The last day of Galungan celebrations, believed as the rising day of the holy spirits and deities back to heaven on this day, special offerings consisted of yellow rice and temples look amazing with ornaments made of young coconut leaves and flowers .



NIKKO BALI RESORT & SPA HOSTED THE INDONESIAN FINAL OF MLA BLACK BOX COMPETITION 2008

On Saturday, 26th January 2008, Nikko Bali Resort & Spa was honored to host the Indonesia Final of MLA Black Box Competition 2008 between Bvlgari Hotels & Resort Bali and Shagri-la Hotels Jakarta. Approximately 20 guests including chefs and media came together in a gala dinner where they were treaded to a menu of carefully prepared dishes using the ingredients from the black box.

Each team at this culinary adventure consisted of three (3) young chefs, with between two and five years experience in the kitchen and age below 32 years old on the day of competition. They were given 24 hours to create an innovative four-course menu for 20 pax from ‘Black Box’ of mystery ingredients, which included salmon fillets from Norway, beef and lamb products from Australia and fine cheese.

The young culinary team of Bvlgari Hotels & Resort accomplished an outstanding performance in this prestigious competition. This team will compete with more than 20’s winning team from the 2006-2008 round of MLA Black Box Culinary Challenge in a global challenge to seek out the best young chef team in the world. The MLA Black Box Culinary Challenge Global Final will be held on 13th and 14th May 2008 at the Madinat Jumeirah Resort, Dubai in conjunction with the World Association of Chefs Societies World Congress.



BEACH PARTY AT NIKKO BALI RESORT & SPA

In conjunction to the Russian Orthodox Christmas celebration, on Sunday, 6 th January 2008, Nikko Bali Resort & Spa presented the ‘Beach Party’. This special dinner was held at its secluded white sandy beach in an exotic atmosphere where one hundred distinguished guests enjoyed an astonishing Russian cuisine and mouthwatering seafood barbeque.

The evening lasted lay into the morning, with spectacular sexy fire dancers, cabaret show and our resident band performance.



NEW YEAR EVE’S CELEBRATION AT NIKKO BALI RESORT & SPA

Nikko Bali Resort & Spa presented the “Celebrations” gala dinner at Graha Sawangan ballroom. Over 400 distinguished guests attended this magnificent New Year’s Eve Party.

The selected entertainers performed a colossal performance from Indonesia cultural dance, Asia to the Americas, passing by Europe. More than 100 dedicated singers, musicians and dancers overwhelmed the audience until late in the New Year’s morning. With great success, the team of Food and Beverage displayed there talent by proposing a variety of recipes originating from Chinese cuisine, to Asian woks, BBQ grills and French pastry corners with home made cakes, pralines and flambé also a lavish buffet with air-flown seafood display on carved ice blocks, Indian Ocean lobsters, oysters and the freshest fish.

The Japanese Benkay Restaurant, the Chinese Tao-Li and the Brasserie venues showed as much creativity with traditional New Year’s Eve menu offering lavish and traditional dishes. Later in the evening, the Oo Loo Loos Entertainment Center gathered all guest for the New Year’s celebration under the theme of Black and Gold Party entertained by oriental dancers, fashion show and DJ’s performance.
