NIKKO BALI RESORT & SPA SUCCESS AT BARTENDERS COMPETITION 2007

Nikko Bali Resort & Spa is proud to announce that Mr. I Ketut Suara from Food & Beverage Department won the second prize among 39 participants from hotels, clubs, cafes in the 2007 Bartenders Competition which was held on 22nd June 2007 and conducted by the Hotel Tourism Institute of Bali.

I Ketut Suara showed outstanding bartending skills and his presentation was accompanied by an attractive Egyptian narrative, and dance performance by employees of Nikko Bali Resort & Spa. He won a prestigious trophy, cash, Bali Moon and Telkomsel products as well as other valuable prizes from various sponsors.

The management of Nikko Bali Resort & Spa congratulates all the winners and thanks all those who extended their support to this memorable event. May the events of this sort continue and inspire the others to further raise the level of performance and quality of service in the industry.



SOCIAL VISIT NIKKO BALI RESORT & SPA TO AL-KAROMAH MELAYA ORPHAN FOUNDATION AT JEMBRANA

On June 17, 2007, the team of Nikko Bali Resort & Spa visited Al-Karomah Melaya Orphan Foundation at Jembrana and presented donations to the orphans in the form of cash foods, stationeries and towels.

Mr. Taslan, the Chairman of Moslem Committee of Nikko Bali expressed moral support and deep affection to the beneficiaries as well as appreciation to the children’s caretakers for their indulgence and concern.

This annual program of the hotel, which was held from 11:00 to 13:00 pm, was initiated by the members and fully supported by families of the Moslem committee of Nikko Bali Resort & Spa.


SOCIAL VISIT NIKKO BALI RESORT & SPA TO SD NEGERI 2 BENOA AT SAWANGAN

On the 16 th of June 2006, the team of Nikko Bali Resort & Spa did something special for the Sawangan community. The team visited Sekolah Dasar Negeri 2 Benoa and presented donations to the school and awards to the students who had outstanding academic performance.

The top three students from grades 1 to 3 were awarded cash prizes - Rp. 200.000 for the 1 st rank, Rp. 150.000 for the 2 nd rank and Rp. 100.000 for the 3 rd honors. On the other hand, those from grades 4 to 6 were awarded cash prizes of Rp. 250.000 for the 1 st rank, Rp. 200.000 and Rp. 150.000 for the 2 nd and 3 rd ranks, respectively. With its symbolic contribution, Nikko Bali inspires the youth for academic excellence and supports the local community.

This social visit is an annual program of Nikko Bali Resort & Spa. In his brief remarks on this occasion, Mr. Dewa Rucika, Executive Assistant Manager of Nikko Bali Resort & Spa committed that the hotel will also provide free English courses to the teachers and the distinguished students of SD Negeri 2 Benoa at Sawangan to further support and enhance their education. The Head Master of SD Negeri 2 Benoa at Sawangan expressed their appreciation and gratitude to Nikko Bali for its continued contributions - financial, moral and logistical support.

Coordinated by Human Resources Department of Nikko Bali Resort & Spa with the school’s teachers and students’ parents, this event successfully happened from 09:00 am until 11:00 am.


NIKKO BALI RESORT & SPA JOINS BALI HOSPITALITY & TOURISM JOB FAIR 2007

To create job placement in Bali’s tourism sector, Nikko Bali Resort & Spa joined the Bali Hospitality & Tourism Job Fair 2007 on 15 – 16 June 2007 at Bali Hotel Tourism Institute (STP Nusa Dua – Bali). This event is a collaborative program and developed by Hotel Tourism Institute with Bali Trainers Association (BTA).

Nikko Bali Resort & Spa opened for 23 job vacancies from craft to management levels. More than 300 applicants showed up and submitted their resumes. The hotel’s Human Resources department will review and screen the applications and will interview the short listed candidates shortly.

The Bali Hospitality & Tourism Job Fair 2007 is an opportunity for Nikko Bali Resort & Spa to create job opportunities and decrease unemployment in its sector.


ANNUAL DHARMA CANTHI

On 10 June 2007, Nikko Bali Resort & Spa held Dharma Canthi. This is an annual event of the hotel attended by Hindu staff, management and their families.

About 300 men, women and children came and prayed together at the hotel’s Daleming Segara temple. Thereafter, they gathered together in the Sawangan Ballroom, shared the ceremonial food and watched the interesting show from “Wayang Cenk Blonk” which told the story and interpreted the meaning of Rwabhineda.

This event was successfully celebrated from 15:00 pm until 20:00 pm. Dharma Canthi was held purposely to preserve and appreciate the Balinese cultural art of puppets, and to promote good relationships as well as camaraderie among Hindus, other staff and communities at the Nikko Bali Resort & Spa.



REPEATED SUCCESS OF THE NIKKO BALI 2 ND OPEN GOLF TOURNAMENT

Nusa Dua – Bali, June 2007… It was a beautiful day for the recent Nikko Bali 2 nd Open Golf Tournament that took place at the Bali Golf & Country Club, Nusa Dua. The second time in a row that an individual hotel held an exclusive open tournament in Bali. 128 golf enthusiasts participated in the event which offered many very attractive prizes and hole-in-one incentives.

The tournament was opened by Mr. Thierry Joho, the General Manager of Nikko Bali Resort & Spa based on a Callaway scoring system and the competition commenced at 13:00 pm. All players received the official tournament umbrella and cap giveaways with a light luncheon and refreshments.

A couple of seasoned players brought an exciting edge to the tournament with dramatic shots on some of the more challenging holes. Most of the participants adopted a casual approach during the day and enjoyed the perfect weather conditions as well as social interaction.

A relaxed cocktail gathering took place immediately after the tournament and gave players the opportunity to unwind. This was followed by a thank you dinner reception at Nikko Bali’s Graha Sawangan Ballroom where guests were treated to an evening of delightful entertainment and sumptuous international menu.

A contemporary golf stick was also given to the winners on top of the prestigious trophy.

As a tradition, generous collection of lucky draw prizes were given away during the dinner presentation, which included five (5) overseas return tickets, accommodation vouchers at chosen Nikko Hotels International properties in Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta; a Nokia hand phone N93 series, Nikko Bali Resort & Spa Suite vouchers, and other valuable prizes. Unfortunately, as the stakes are too high, the three exclusive hole-in-one prizes of a Nissan Grand Livina, return ticket Denpasar-Tokyo-Denpasar, and return ticket Denpasar-Perth-Denpasar were not won during the tournament.

The Nikko Bali 2 nd Open Golf Tournament was held purposely to continue the golf series, provide a forum for golfers to improve their skills and competitiveness, enjoy their hobby and also to interact with the members of the distinct community. GALUNGAN DAY

The day commemorated as the victory day of "Dharma" (virtue) upon "Adharma" (evil) according to the old history of Bali (Purana). This day the Hindus thank the God and feel grateful for His blessing and for the creation of the earth and its contents. This day is the day of rituals, festivities and celebrations with "Penjor" the artistically decorated bamboo-pole stuck at every house entrance, adorning the both sides of the village-roads symbolizing of prosperity.
There are several processions need to be done to celebrate Galungan Day:

bali fruit PENYEKEBAN (3 days before Galungan)
On this day, people begin to prepare the necessities for the Galungan ceremony. They collect fruits and store them in a special place until they get ripe.

PENYAJAHAN
(2 days before Galungan)
On Penyajahan day, people keep on maintaining awareness, patience and the purity of the soul in order to control the demons. Another meaning of Penyajahan is making or cooking Balinese cakes (jaja). Therefore, on this day, people have to cook various kinds of Balinese cakes for the ceremony to come.

PENAMPAHAN
(1 day before Galungan)
This is a sacrificial day. This is the day to slaughter sacrificial animals like chickens, ducks or pigs. People cook them into various kinds of Balinese food, such as satay, soup, lawar (a special Balinese food made of meat or vegetables, mixed with coconut sauce).

GALUNGAN DAY, 27 June 2007
On the Galungan day itself, Balinese Hindus go to temples and other holy places to pray. People are dressed in colorful Balinese costumes. Women carry the offerings on their heads and men bring palm leave offerings in their hands, while the children walk hand in hand next to their parents.


MANIS GALUNGAN
(1 day after Galungan)
On this day, Balinese Hindu communities usually visit their relatives, friends and neighbors. They forgive each other and remain together. It is also a day to relax and visit places of interest, after the long days of preparations for the celebration.
