NIKKO BALI RESORT & SPA BREAKS RECORD FOR WORLD’S LONGEST SATAY
Nusa Dua – Bali, December 2006… in conjunction with its 10 th anniversary celebrations, Nikko Bali Resort & Spa recently hosted a grand scale birthday party with a guest list of more than 1000 people. Government representatives, resort employees, Balinese orphans and teenagers from a local school for special needs gathered together in the garden environment adjacent to the resort to share the occasion.
The highlight of the party was the creation of the world’s longest satay, which was recognized by the Founder & Chairman of MURI ( Indonesian Museum of Records), Mr. Jaya Suprana. Following a Balinese procession of traditional costumed dancers and musicians the length of the satay was officially measured at an astounding 82.5 metres long.
This event was made possible through the efforts of various department members who joined together in a fine example of dedication and team spirit. The satay took all night to prepare and used 160 kilograms of imported Australian beef pieces together on an iron skewer.
In a brief speech, General Manager, Mr. Thierry Joho sincerely thanked all staff members for their work over the past 10 years. He also mentioned that the ongoing success of Nikko Bali Resort & Spa is largely due the staff and the exceptional service that they provide. He anticipates a long and prosperous future for the resort.
As the world’s largest satay was formally declared cooked and ready to eat, Mr Jaya Suprana took to the stage for a few words. In a humorous speech he congratulated Mr. Joho for his excellent leadership and for creating a memorable anniversary event that would go down in Indonesian history. He then called upon all the children present at the party to sing the Indonesian national anthem.
Guest’s were then invited to partake in a delicious buffet luncheon, which included the record breaking beef satay, and enjoy a performance of live music. After lunch Nikko Bali’s giant birthday cake was cut up and distributed amongst the crowd.
The party marked the last in a series of 10 monthly events that have been staged over the course of this year to celebrate Nikko Bali Resort & Spa’s 10 th anniversary.
The celebrations commenced in March 2006 with a stylish dinner party held in appreciation of all Nikko Bali’s supporters such as travel agents, media partners, airlines, consulates and government representatives. The party is themed ‘an evening of unbelievable illusions’ and with special performance by renowned Indonesian illusionist, Deddy Corbuzier.
The festivities continued in the following months with events entitled the 2nd Bali Beauty Fair, Goa Gajah Enhancement Program, Nikko Bali 10 th Anniversary Open Golf Tournament, Tennis Tournament and Nikko Kidz Adventure with Tina Toon.
There will also be a series of activities that pay tribute to the island’s Hindu heritage with The Greatest Balinese Cultural Show featuring legendary dance maestro, Ibu Ni Ketut Arini. In conjunction with National Ocean Day in September, the Nikko Traditional Balinese Boat Competition has taken place with the coral transplantation program. Activities wind down towards the end of the year with a Peaceful Retreat at Nikko Bali Resort & Spa that involves a nurturing meditation session with Balinese practitioner, Mr. Merta Ada.
The events were designed to cater to a wide range of tastes and involve members of the local Balinese community. It has been an exciting year for Nikko Bali and one that has seen all staff members develop stronger working relationships.
